FLETCH_
Fletch, or arrow feathers, is the first packaging designed for traditional bows. Today, the primitive bow has been replaced with the modern bow, manufactured and no longer unique. Fletch offers the primitive bow making experience from stringing the bow to learning about the Native American tribes.
The packaging is wrapped in cloth printed with Navajo patterns, the largest tribe in North America. Leather and fur are also used as secondary material. Upon opening the package, the ceremonial first layer presents the bow as a sacred object. Secondly, underneath are the individual components that make up the bow and the arrow shafts.
PROCESS_
Unlike the modern bow, every traditional bow is unique and hand carved. I took archery lessons with a wooden long bow and asked professional carvers about bows. I learned that carving the perfect bow requires carving away growth rings; inconsistent rings or damaged wood results in a poor bow. Even waxing and braiding the draw string was a process itself. The last steps were to string and bend the bow.
