LAST. BOOKSTORE_
In the next few decades, the Last. Bookstore may very well be the last place to read books. This identity explores the disappearance of print and how it competes to exist with technology.
A majority of this project was done analog, reverting to when design was done without computers.
Located in Los Angeles, it is California’s largest used, new, trade and sell book store. The Last. Bookstore imagines print coexisting with the digital world. It explores analog tools such as the typewriter, newspapers, and even wax seals to revisit the origin of print. Dwarf & Giant is the bookstore’s online blog, reprinted in newspaper form yet keeping the blog’s format, using URL links and digital time stamps. Parallel to this, the website is designed to look and feel like a newspaper.
PROCESS_
The identity collateral was created with aged technology: a typewriter, textured paper, and the process of melting gold foil; the gold was inspired by the bank. Coffee rings were inspired by the culture and cafes around the book store. All images and typography were hand cut, torn, crumpled, and xeroxed.

The Last. Bookstore hopes to create an environment where people can continue to get lost in books, a personal experience that may vanish with the disappearance of books. I designed an interactive installation that portrays the last tangible book and its last story.
